DURING JUNE 1-4, 1989, a 145-acre potato field adjacent to the town of Dorris, California, was treated with Ethoprop (Mocap[R}) (O-ethyl-S,S-dipropylphosphorodithioate), an organophosphate pesticide that releases n-propyl mercaptan into the atmosphere following application. [1]
Residents of the town began reporting health effects (i.e., shortness of breath and dizziness) to the Butte Valley Rural Health Clinic (BVRHC) soon after the pesticide was applied.
