TESTS to determine the extent of an outbreak of the world's worst potato disease on a farm in Mid Wales have been completed - hundreds of tonnes of the vegetables are now set to be destroyed.

For the past two weeks, inspectors from Defra have peeled and cored more than 88,000 potatoes which have then been examined by the Central Science Laboratory.

The farm's seed from The Netherlands, Provento, was found to be infected with ring rot, but another 20 - all different varieties - were free from the disease.
