Q: I have many of the symptoms of diabetes and am scheduled for a screening next week.
If the test does indicate that I might have diabetes, with what kind of physician should I follow up? Thank you.
A: Different people may make different decisions about receiving care from a primary care physician or a diabetes specialist (diabetologist or endocrinologist) for diabetes.
In some instances, the diabetes specialist works as a consultant to the primary care physician for the care of the diabetes and in some instances they assume responsibility for the primary care in people with this disease.
This can depend on a number of factors.
