Microbial growth call cause biofilm or "slime" buildup on commercial ice-making machines, causing inconvenient equipment breakdowns. In fact, restaurants, hotels, and other facilities spend significant amounts of money each year to repair and clean ice machines. Manitowoc Ice Inc., a manufacturer of commercial ice machines, is now using machine parts that incorporate AlphaSan from Milliken Chemical, a continuous-acting antimicrobial agent designed to provide a new level of sanitation.
Although it does not replace regular cleaning, this new biofilm prevention system enables less frequent and less severe cleaning. It also boasts life-long effectiveness.
