NEW YORK (FNS) -- Although comparable-store sales were generally weak in July, retailers found pockets of strength in lingerie, dresses, junior apparel, handbags and new fragrances.
Two exceptions to the lackluster same-store figures were The Gap, Inc., with a gain of 14 percent, and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., with an increase of 13 percent.
At Dayton Hudson Department Stores, bestsellers were the recently launched Calvin Klein Escape fragrance and suede handbags.
