EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Several welts, the residue of four sacks and the evening-long pounding to which he had been subjected were visible on Chad Pennington's face, but the real damage in last night's 21-16 loss to the league-leading Patriots had been to his pride.
Not since his first start as a college freshman had Pennington thrown five interceptions. And when he did it then, against UT-Chattanooga, "We won," he said, "so it didn't matter."
Pennington had never thrown as many as THREE picks in an NFL game. In fact, going into last night's clash with the Pats at the Meadowlands, he had only been interecepted 13 times ...
