Identity theft is America's fastest-growing crime.
The Department of Justice calls it the crime of the new millennium. Identity theft can be accomplished anonymously and easily - and the impact upon the victim can be devastating.
The theft of personal information, such as a name, date of birth, Social Security number, credit card number or an account number from a financial statement, is on the rise. According to the Federal Trade Commission, identity theft complaints jumped 80% between June 2002 and June 2003.
The FTC reports that about 28 million Americans have been victims of identity theft in the past five years. ...
