Those who braved the cold to attend Syracuse Symphony Orchestra's annual Holiday Pops concert Friday night were rewarded.
Only a Scrooge could have resisted the concert's considerable charms. The symphony, led by Resident Conductor Grant Cooper, played seasonal favorites ensured to silence any "bah-humbugs."
After beginning two medleys of Christmas tunes, soprano Mara Bonde, a veteran of the concert and operatic stages, performed "Away in a Manger." Bonde's voice is smooth and well-produced, but the arrangement was a bit too low for her. The next selection, Mel Torme's "Christmas Song," was more ...
