It was supposed to be a spur-of-the-moment treat.
Last July, Emily Youssouf, 52, and her husband, Charlie Parker, 47, were hosting two old friends, Jeff and Tamela Purcell, at their weekend home in Bridgehampton, New York. An idea took shape: Why not fly to Manhattan for a late Sunday-night dinner? Driving into town would take at least three hours, but a small plane could get them there in 30 minutes. That way, the Purcells, who live in South Carolina, would get a chance to see the city skyline from on high. "We really wanted our friends to see the lights," explains Youssouf.
They never did.
The two couples had barely settled into their flight ...
