Article: Advances in powder metallurgy; advances in Direct Metal Fabrication.(Conference Report)

Direct Metal Fabrication (DMF) is a process for rapidly fabricating functional net shape metal parts. There has been considerable activity in the last ten years in solid freeform fabrication (SFF) for rapid production of prototypes, tooling, and even functional machine parts. The ability of a manufacturer to fabricate arbitrary geometrical shapes directly from a CAD file and some form of raw material has led to tremendous cost and time savings.
