Once an inspiration for generations of girls and boys, comics are now a dying breed. Louella Houldcroft asks if our children are missing out on a vital social tool.
For more than five decades the adventures of comic-book heroes such as Dan Dare, Roy of the Rovers and Bunty were lapped up by young boys and girls across the UK.
Delighting generations of children, girls were fed stories of girls striving to become air hostesses, ballerina's or gymnasts while boys dreamt of saving the world and striking that winning goal.
