NEKOOSA -- If you have a goal, you can achieve it -- sometimes one candy bar at a time.
That's what students with special needs have learned at Alexander Middle School while raising more than $30,000 since 1998, simply by staffing a snack wagon three times a day.
"It started because the kids needed some kind of functional job," said John Wresch, who teaches the cognitively disabled class. "We needed creative financing to fix up one of the classrooms."
Snack sales were a success from the start.
"Last year, we grossed $17,000 and netted between $6,000 and $7,000," Wresch said. ...
