Wu Man is perhaps the best-known performer on the pipa, the ancient Chinese lute (the ancestor of all lute-like instruments around the globe, with a history dating back more than 2,000 years). Born in China, she studied in Beijing before moving to the U.S., where she's been continually lauded. This showcase, both of the instrument and her abilities, is one of the best releases to date on the budget Naxos World label and possibly the most adventurous.
