The incident took place one night on 58th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues in Manhattan, many years ago. He was heading east and I was heading west. The "Man in Black"--in this particular case, black pants, black shirt, and a black overcoat to stave off a light but steady rain--was coming toward me, walking by himself along 58th Street. As he passed, I couldn't think of a thing to say that he wouldn't have heard ten thousand times before from ten thousand other fans--so I said nothing.
