Bryan Wilbur says the first tip that he had hired the wrong man to replace the roof on his Syracuse home came when the contractor took weeks to finish the job, instead of the few days he thought it would take.

"He was on the job a couple of days, then he would not come back for a week or two," said Wilbur, who lives on Baldwin Avenue. "Then he'd come back."
