A pet owner's poignant tribute to his beloved cat who died this Christmas SHE arrived in a brown paper bag in 1981. We already had one cat, a black-and-white stray who had turned up unheralded at the front door and demanded to take up residence, and whom we called Chiquitita de Los Angeles (Cheeky for short).

That one so wore us out chasing paper balls up and down the stairs that we decided to acquire a playmate for her.

I called a celebrated Cat Lady in London who travels the streets to rescue abandoned animals and settle them somewhere, and offered to give a cat a home - so long as it wasn't another black-and-white one.
