Meals on Wheels is declaring an end to the free lunch.
Facing close to a $10,000 deficit for the second year in a row, Meals on Wheels is beginning to insist on a $4 payment for each hot meal.
The required payment is just part of an overall belt-tightening for the two agencies that provide meals in Cayuga County, in response to higher costs and frozen or reduced public funding. For people just joining the Meals on Wheels program, that means if they don't pay $4, they don't get a hot meal.
