The US has criticised the Kyoto protocol and heralded its own record on climate change at the meeting of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Milan, Italy.
US undersecretary of state for global affairs, Paula Dobriansky, described the protocol, which requires reductions in absolute emissions of greenhouse gases, as 'an unrealistic and ever tightening regulatory straightjacket'.
Instead, the US will innovate its way around the problem of climate change by investing billions of dollars in cleaner and more efficient technology. And, although unwilling to sign up to the Kyoto agreement, the US remains active in the UNFCCC, ...
