AUSTRALIAN director P. J. Hogan's lavish new live-action version of Peter Pan is more faithful to J. M. Barrie's play than the 1953 Disney version was; and it looks magical.
The design is a sumptuous mixture of Baz Luhrmann's explosively colourful Moulin Rouge, Max Reinhardt's kitsch A Midsummer Night's Dream from the Thirties, and the eerier paintings of the pre-Raphaelites. I particularly admired the scary, slimy mermaids.
Young British newcomer Rachel Hurd-Wood makes a lovely, intelligent, unaffected ...
