AN HMS Mersey is to take to the seas for the first time in 90 years.
The vessel is part of a three-strong fisheries protection fleet and will be affiliated with the borough of Sefton.
Preparations are now under way for the official commissioning at Canada Dock in March,an unusual step as her home dock is Portsmouth and it is customary for such a ceremony to take place there.
First Lieutenant of HMS Mersey Pat O'Callaghan is originally from Anfield,Liverpool,and now lives in Crosby. He will be on board the ship as it goes on sea trials.
