Few indoor plants can rival the sheer magnificence of a blooming amaryllis. Actually a tender flowering bulb, the amaryllis produces striking flowers with petals 6 inches or longer, ranging from brilliant orange and vibrant red to subtle shades of pink, soft salmon or elegantly sophisticated white. All this glory explodes from a tall, hollow stalk that emerges from a bed of narrow strap-shaped leaves.
Although amaryllis typically grow 24 inches to 30 inches in height (necessitating some staking), hybridizers have developed small, almost miniature versions suitable as table decorations or for small apartments. ...
