NEW YORK -- Brown Shoe Co. has signed a "long-term" licensing deal to design, source and market footwear under Phillips-Van Heusen Corp.'s Bass label.
The deal, combined with PVH's plan to close approximately 200 of its 700 factory outlet stores, will effectively end the New York-based company's wholesale footwear business. The stores slated for shuttering "tend to be lower-volume stores and stores that either lost money or were only marginally profitable," said Emanuel Chirico, executive vice president and CFO of the firm. PVH outlets have been operated under four different nameplates: Van Heusen, Izod, Geoffrey Beene and Bass.
