FDA issued an advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM) to request public comment on several topics involving qualified health claims and other potential initiatives to help consumers choose a healthy diet. Qualified health claims are claims that are not supported by significant scientific agreement. The action is a follow-up to the July 11, 2003, report of the Consumer Health Information for Better Nutrition Initiative Task Force.
In the ANPRM, FDA is soliciting comments in three areas:
