What a difference a year makes. In December 2002, Roxio closed its purchase of what was left of Napster, but most industry pundits thought--off the record, at least--that the chances of the outlaw filesharing service ever relaunching as a legitimate business fell somewhere between slim and none. And in the bigger picture, nobody had managed to come up with a for-profit online music delivery model that appeared to have any real chance of success.
