COUNTRYSIDE: In each issue of COUNTRYSIDE I read about the nostalgic adventure of owning a farm, and living off the land. It is time all of you would-be farmers stop, look and listen before you get hit by the Farmers Train.
Yes, country life is wonderful with a certain sense of freedom and independence, but the freedom and independence come with a high price of sacrifice and doing without. If you do not have enough money from outside sources to maintain the lifestyle you want, then you will not survive on the farm, unless you are an exception.
Farm life is seven days a week from dawn until dusk and there is no such thing as "retirement" on the farm.
