Arctic temperatures have aided a construction comeback for the St. Paul Winter Carnival Ice Palace, but the project remains behind schedule and crews were still smoothing out kinks Tuesday to reach peak productivity.
Jake Boerboon, project engineer for Kraus-Anderson Construction Co., said 1,500 ice blocks were in place downtown Tuesday morning after the first three days of work. He had hoped for 6,000 blocks, but ice cutting was delayed by a shortage of ice on Lake Phalen, and production hasn't yet reached the target of 1,500 blocks a day.
