Anger erupted yesterday after around 120 elderly people were left facing an uncertain future by plans to close three council-run care homes in Northumberland.
Cash-strapped county councillors - who have to make budget cuts of more than pounds 7m this year - have revealed moves to close the homes in South-East Northumberland because they say they can't afford to modernise them.
They have launched formal consultation over the proposed closures of Essendene in Ashington, Tynedale House in Blyth and The Mount in Morpeth which have about 120 residents and around ...
