DM City Center, the theater on West 55th Street in Manhattan with ornate Moorish architecture, has played a prominent role in New York's dance history. Built in 1924, it was restored by Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia in 1943, providing a home for the New York City Ballet and New York City Opera until both moved to Lincoln Center. Now City Center remains a vital 2,750-seat theater complex for resident and touring dance companies.
