It happens every year. Pool professionals work hard to properly close pools down for the off-season, utilizing shock and algaecide. When spring arrives, they begin the start-up process with more chemicals, shocking and algaecide. Yet in spite of these deterrents, the pools often still end up with algae.
The problem of resistant, recurring algae may be due to high levels of phosphates, a primary source of nutrition for algae. Phosphate removal can be a key element in dealing with the resistant algae scenario, the theory being that if you remove the food source, you remove the algae.
