The media, consumers, and now the federal government are cracking down on obesity as a major health issue in the U.S. Recent lawsuits targeting the fast food industry as a culprit in rise in obesity are forcing Quick Service Restaurants (QSRs) to place a stronger emphasis on healthier menu offerings. Many now offer salads and lower-fat alternatives to the usual burgers and fries combo, but the mainstay menu items are still hamburgers, pork breakfast sausage and breaded chicken--all typically high in fat.
