As many as 90% of women report back pain during pregnancy, and at least one third have severe or disabling pain that interferes with dally activities. (1-6) The incidence of pregnancy-related back pain increases with age (5) and parity, but younger women tend to report more severe pain than older women. (7-10) Back pain during pregnancy can be triggered by heavy lifting, combined lifting and twisting, strenuous work, (2 and sustained postures. (3, 11) In the workplace, the patient's inability to take adequate rest breaks or control the pace of work also contributes to back pain. (2, 12)
