TOKYO, Jan 9 Asia Pulse - Kirin Brewery Co. (TSE:2503) announced Thursday that it will abolish manufacturer's suggested retail prices for beer and low-malt beer from January 2005 to allow retailers to set their own prices.
The move follows the widespread practice among retailers of selling for less than the suggested retail price amid increasing competition involving volume liquor retailers and supermarkets.
Kirin believes that the move will have no negative impact on beer retail prices, but other beer companies have so far taken a wait-and-see approach.
