Jan. 8--SANTA FE, N.M. -- Two Santa Fe environmental groups filed suit Tuesday in federal court seeking to stop a proposed Jemez Mountain logging project aimed at salvaging about 950 acres of burned national forest.
At issue is habitat for a pair of endangered Mexican spotted owls known to nest in a protected 600-acre patch included in the proposed project, known as the Lakes and BMG timber salvage.
About 4,600 acres in both areas burned in 2002.
