The first U.S. case of mad cow disease brings both positives and negatives to Wisconsin's efforts to deal with a similar fatal brain disease in wild deer, researchers said Thursday.
"Very clearly, there needs to be a lot more testing on cattle in the U.S. Will this divert some of the efforts toward deer disease? I guess that is possible," UW-Madison professor Judd Aiken said.
For nearly two decades, Aiken has researched the prion afflictions called mad cow disease and chronic wasting disease.
