This summer Toshiba will begin shipping samples of 2GB and 4GB hard drives that are 0.85 inches, one-quarter the size of its current 1.8-inch drive. Volume production of the 10-gram unit is expected in late 2004, the company said. The product is aimed at the booming market for handheld digital media devices including music players, cell phones, PDAs, still cameras, digital camcorders and external storage devices.
