Sunrise Saturday in the Tug Hill region, and the temperature is way below zero. The snow is deep and packed. The sky is clear.
These are the conditions that draw snowmobilers, cross-country skiers, dog sledders and other winter-lovers like a magnet to one of the nation's snowiest regions.
"There's no snow where we're at. That's why we drive five hours to get up here," said Rachel Weaver, who comes to the Hill three or four times a year from Ottsville, Pa., to snowmobile with her fiance, Chris Rowe.
"We had a snowstorm about a month ago," she said. "One foot."
