For most Coloradans, same- sex marriage is not an important issue. It doesn't affect their lives one way or another. But for those same- sex couples excluded from both the legal responsibilities and protections that most married couples simply take for granted, the issue is very important.
Marital status, or the lack thereof, can mean the difference between sitting bedside when a partner is hospitalized in intensive care or being forced to sit in a waiting room, lucky to hear updates from a sympathetic member of the hospital staff.
