I've noticed a big increase in online activity of late. Most of it is "business as usual"--modem users downloading files, reading E-mail, arguing in message bases, playing games, etc. On some services, though, there seems to be a concerted effort on the part of small groups of users to seek out problems that don't exist--or to create them. I've seen this happen more than once on just about every online service over the years. Usually, the results are extended "flame wars," in which thousands of messages are posted on all sides of a dispute, with the individuals at the center of the controversy enjoying no little notiriety (which is often the reason why such disputes ...
