Jan. 15--HONG KONG -- The London-based Standard Chartered PLC said Thursday it plans to incorporate its business in Hong Kong to further capitalize on opportunities emerged from closer economic relations with mainland China.
The bank said it hopes to put its Hong Kong operations under a wholly owned subsidiary company.
"This is a signal of our confidence in Hong Kong and China," Bryan Sanderson, Standard Chartered's chairman, said in a statement.
"Hong Kong is our largest market and Greater China is at the heart of our growth strategy," Sanderson said.
