We're becoming thread-count snobs. Ten years ago, few sheet buyers in a white sale flurry would ever think to ask, "How many threads per square inch?" Today, even discounters tout their 100 percent cotton sheets with thread counts of 300. It's another example of the "trading up" trend that has low- and middle-income families treating themselves to luxury linens, Grey Goose martinis and Victoria's Secret silk pajamas as emotional rewards.
