CYRANO de Bergerac is one of the best known and most admired French dramas in modern times. The five-act play was first Performed in Paris on December 28, 1897. It received forty curtain calls and the performance was considered one of the greatest triumphs in all French theatrical history. It is a historical drama loosely based on the life of a seventeenth century figure who was both soldier and thinker. In the play, Cyrano is a brave and dashing soldier/poet whose grotesque appearance belies the sensitivity and nobility of his soul.
