The executive who led the expansion of Microsoft Corp.'s game-publishing group from "Flight Simulator" for the personal computer to "Halo" for the Xbox is leaving after 18 years with the company.
Ed Fries, 39 ((age)), said it simply seemed the right time to depart. He started with Microsoft in the mid-1980s as an intern in its applications group. Had he stayed, he said, he would have felt obligated to remain at least another five years, through the next cycle of Microsoft's game-related products.
