The European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co. (EADS) said yesterday that on Dec. 29 it finalized the $234.4 million development phase on the mid-life upgrade of Spain's fleet of 65 F/A-18 Hornets originally produced by Boeing [BA].
According to an EADS statement, the first aircraft slated for the upgrade arrived at EADS' facilities in Getafe, home of the upgrade program. EADS hopes to establish a pace of one F/A-18 per month.
A software team comprising EADS' CASA Military Aircraft group and the Spanish air force's Armament and Experimental Logistics Center (CALEX) designed and developed the software package that comprises the upgrade.
