Coast strike ends; strikers lose jobs
A seven-week strike staged by drivers and other union workers at San Diego's largest beer hauler, Coast Distributing Co., has ended in a victory for Coast and lost jobs for 72 strikers replaced by the company.
Of the 107 union workers who went on strike June 16, 35 had returned to work without a contract by Aug. 5, the day the remaining strikers voted to end the strike. The 34 drivers, 13 warehouse workers and 25 sales and merchandising employees who had remained on strike now cannot return to work because they have been replaced, many permanently.
