Grand Rapids, Minn., the birthplace of Mesaba Airlines, is expected to lose its only airline service after Northwest Airlines said Friday that it is not profitable to serve Grand Rapids with Mesaba flights.
Last weekend Grand Rapids residents worried that they might lose their service temporarily because of a potential pilots' strike. This weekend residents are fearful that they might lose service permanently.
"We have been concerned about the profitability of this route for many months," said Northwest spokeswoman Mary Stanik.
Northwest said it intends to drop Grand Rapids service on March 1. Mesaba now ...
