The recent news that farmed salmon from Scotland and the Faroe Islands contains a high concentration of lethal carcinogens, such as PCBs and dioxins, has caused mass panic, and quite rightly too. The report, published in the respected Science journal, recommended that we should eat no more than one portion of farmed Scottish or Faroe Island salmon every four months, as consuming more would increase our chances of cancer.
I've long been opposed to the intensive farming of salmon. Not only does it concentrate toxins that are harmful to humans, it is unsustainable and environmentally ruinous. It also produces a flabbyfleshed, ...
