Jan. 19--When a job transfer took Elaine Lyons and her husband, Jeff, from their home in Rolla, Mo., and brought them to Oklahoma City about 17 years ago, they were encouraged to find a home anywhere but on the south side.

People suggested it was the worst part of the city, Lyons, 39, said.

"So, being the rebel that I am, the first day we were here I wanted to drive to south Oklahoma City to check it out. And we fell in love," she said. "We've been here ever since and have built two homes here."
