Plans to use PFI for rebuilding council homes took a set forward this month as the first project to try out the system reached preferred bidder stage.
Sandwell this month appointed Riverside Housing Association as preferred bidder for the 230m [pounds sterling] housing scheme, which will involve new build or major refurbishment work on 283 homes. Final contracts are expected to be signed in March.
Cabinet member for housing strategy Cllr Mahboob Hussain said: "Tenants can look forward to major investment and once we have completed some fine-tuning I am confident work should get underway on the estate from 1 April 2004."
