A coalition of 18 manufacturing groups has called for a moratorium on all new free trade agreements including the Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) completed by the Bush administration on December 17. The coalition also wants a moratorium on all legislation that would create preferential trade agreements with individual countries or regions.
"We are extremely alarmed at the rapid disintegration of our manufacturing base resulting in part from past trade liberalization agreements and legislation," say the manufacturing groups in a joint statement.
