CORRECTION PUBLISHED 01/22/04: This article incorrectly named the film in which Sidney Poitier won the Oscar for best actor in 1963. It was "Lilies of the Field."
What is it about Sidney Poitier? Even when playing a blue-collar husband who sneaks out to whoop it up with the "fine mamas" after his wife is in bed for the night, he exudes classiness.
That's the Poitier we see in 1974's "Uptown Saturday Night," the first of three comedies he directed and starred in with Bill Cosby in the '70s. They're among a slew of '70s soul-cinema flicks that have just come out on DVD.
